2007 Wounded Warrior Pier Event

On May 4, 2007 the first Wounded Warriors’ Pier Fishing trip was held at the Sea View Pier in North Topsail Beach, NC. A small group of around 10 Warriors and an equal number of volunteers spent the day fishing and in fellowship. Early on in the day catches of bluefish were steady. Mid afternoon the NE winds started to stir the surf up and the blue fish bite slowed. Fortunately, the surf zone action picked up with some sea mullet and black drum. By days end around 50 blues, 3 sea mullets, 2 flounder and 5 sand perch were cleaned and given to the Warriors. While the Warriors took home fish, to a man all the volunteers took home some thing greater; the knowledge that they had spent the day in the presence of Heroes.
