Boots on the Boards Sep 30, 2011
We had our 2nd Annual “Boots on the Boards” pier fishing trip with members of the Warriors in Transition Unit at Ft. Bragg, NC on Friday Sept. 30th. It was a great day. Everyone caught something; all our heroes seemed to really enjoy themselves. It was indeed a pleasure and an honor to spend some time with these wonderful people. At the end of the day these young warriors left with a new rod/reel combo package, tackle pack and lures to keep them fishing and plenty of fishing stores and a smile.
Its always a pleasure to spend the day with these guys and girls and it even feels better when they come up to you at the end of the day and tell you it was the best day they have had in a long time even when the fish are not really biting well. Around 6 pm the fishing had gotten started with some black drum and spots being caught and a few nice sea mullets we finally left around 6:30 pm and there was still 5 to 10 guys and girls fishing.
Want to thank everyone that came out and volunteered. It is great to see the same folks step up and just as great that today we added 6 or so new volunteers to the mix. Wish the fish had bitten better but that’s something we cannot control. My number one wish is that we never have anymore wounded military to take fishing.
The healing of a soul is only a cast away.
