Military appreciation related organizations

Eastern North Carolina has a very large military population with major military installations like MCB Camp LeJeune, MCAS Cherry Point, MCAS New River, Fort Bragg, Pope Air Force Base, Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base and Coast Guard Stations located in Elizabeth City, Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Wrightsville Beach and elsewhere.  With such a large military presence the civilian population has an emotional bond with our military neighbors.  It is out of this bond that numerous organizations such as Fisherman In Support of Heroes, Inc. have formed to show support and appreciation of the military.

One such organization is Military Appreciation Day Inc.  Since it’s inception in the early spring of 2006 they have successfully hosted seven events for active duty members of the military.  At these events, in addition to their “Take A Hero Fishing” program; they have been responsible for approximately 1500 military members and their families having a fishing adventure of a lifetime. In addition, they have fed over 2500 military members, their families and volunteers. At MADII, TV Outdoors personality Keith Warren was a guest and included tape of the event on a segment of his show. For more information go to:  http://www.MilitaryAppreciationDay.org/

Hope For The Warriors, Inc. is another eastern North Carolina based organization and like Fisherman In Support of Heroes their emphasis is on the Wounded Warrior. In conjunction with some anglers in the Wilmington, NC area they have hosted fishing events for the Wounded Warriors from Camp LeJeune and Fort Bragg.  For more information go to: http://www.hopeforthewarriors.org

We would like to also acknowledge that since 2001 the Onslow Bay Saltwater Fishing Club has held an annual military appreciation day of their own.  Each year 80-100 military members are treated to a fishing trip and cookout with the club members.  One year, professional angler and TV personality Roland Martin was a participant and included the event on one of his TV shows.

In addition to the aforementioned organizations there are similar organizations across the country.  Some of these are Healing Waters, Heroes On the Water, Take a Soldier Fishing, and Fishing For Heroes.  An internet search will provide more information on these and other similar organizations.

All these organizations rely upon donations to continue with their mission as does Fisherman In Support of Heroes, Inc.  Please make a donation of time or money to the organizations of your choice and remember those that are protecting our freedom; the American servicemen and women.
