Successful 2nd Annual Veterans Appreciation Day
Saturday November 12, 2011; FISHERMEN IN SUPPORT OF HEROES hosted the MSgt. Dick Phelps Memorial Veterans Appreciation 2011 F.I.S.H. Fest, which was a free day of pier fishing on the Seaview Pier for Our Military Heroes that have served in Our Nation’s Military. The day started with two eager Veterans there an hour early for the events and why not; after all the sun was up, the skies were a cloudless Carolina blue and the water was slick although the air temps were in the mid 30’s.
A small group of 27 Veterans did their best to reduce the population of Northern Puffers, Whiting, Flounder, Red Drum, Black Drum and Speckled Trout around the pier. Twenty two of our Veterans were lucky enough to win either a brand new rod/reel combo or a fishing tackle bag containing assorted tackle. Each winner also received a F.I.S.H. t-shirt. A special gift of colored pictures and “What a Veteran is to me” cards from some patriotic elementary school children from Harrells Christian Academy, were given to each Veteran. Each of our Veterans and volunteers also got a great free lunch compliments of Greg Ludlum and his staff at the Seaview Grill.
The Directors and volunteers of FISHERMEN IN SUPPORT OF HEROES would sincerely like to thank Greg Ludlum and his staff for once again allowing us to take advantage of the fine facilities at the Seaview Pier and most importantly of all THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VETERANS FOR THEIR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY! Also, thanks to all the volunteers that have helped over the last 5 years.
